Root Canal Treatment / Endodontics

Why is root canal treatment necessary?

Sometimes a tooth is so damaged that root canal treatment is necessary to save it. We use the latest methods for this. This allows us to save teeth that, just a few years ago, would typically have had to be extracted. During root canal treatment, we gently remove the inflamed pulp and clean and disinfect the tooth from the inside—so that you can continue to chew with that tooth for as many years as possible.

Is every root canal treatment the same?

Root canal treatment is always tailored to the individual, just like your teeth. For example, the front incisors have only a single canal in the root, while large molars typically have 3 or 4 canals that need to be cleaned and disinfected. Sometimes the tooth roots are very sharply angled or slanted and difficult to reach, while other times they are very straight and easy to treat. The quality of the treatment also plays a role: It stands to reason that a tooth that has been thoroughly cleaned and disinfected using every available method has a better chance of remaining in the mouth than one treated with a “standard” root canal procedure that merely meets the minimum requirements (and as you might have guessed—we don’t settle for the minimum requirements). So not all root canal treatments are created equal! At the Friedlingen Dental Center, we therefore use the most modern methods: multiple disinfectant rinses, ultrasonic activation, and shielding the tooth from saliva using cofferdam, so as not to contaminate the canals.

How much does a root canal treatment cost?

Root canal treatment is billed based on the actual work performed. As described above, the amount of work required can vary from tooth to tooth. The costs are listed here as examples:

  • Karim M., 32 years old: A small molar on the lower right was causing pain. The necessary root canal treatment cost €810.00. Finally pain-free again, and the tooth is saved!
  • Beat K., 48 years old: A cusp had broken off the large upper right molar; the tooth had three root canals. The necessary root canal treatment alone therefore cost €1,120.71.
