If you have no cavities or other damage to your teeth, the whitening will work as intended: it will give you a beautiful white smile! However, if you still have cavities or other damage to your teeth, it is important to ensure your teeth are healthy and in good condition beforehand. A professional teeth cleaning/dental hygiene session before whitening ensures that all surface stains and plaque, including tartar, are removed—only then can the whitening gel with its active ingredients actually penetrate the teeth!
