According to the Consumer Advice Center and the Association of Statutory Health Insurance Dentists, a professional teeth cleaning should take about 45–60 minutes and should also include a personalized consultation to help you keep your teeth perfectly healthy at home. At our practice, we offer a relaxing dental hygiene treatment that takes about an hour to ensure flawless results.
How much does a professional teeth cleaning / dental hygiene appointment cost?
There are no fixed prices for professional teeth cleaning or dental hygiene (this would not even be permitted in Germany). At the Friedlingen Dental Center, we therefore adhere to legal requirements: For example, the price of a professional teeth cleaning depends on the number of teeth and the amount of work involved (e.g., a lot of tartar?). Therefore, we can only provide case examples to give you an idea of how much dental hygiene or professional teeth cleaning costs:
- Lukas L., 23 years old, still has his upper wisdom teeth, which are sometimes difficult to clean. This means there are more teeth to clean, but the rest of the effort involved is normal. Cost of dental hygiene in his case: €172.09
- Carolin R., 56 years old, comes in regularly for dental cleanings, so the effort required is slightly less. She still has almost all her teeth. Cost of dental hygiene in her case: €168.26

Can I schedule a dental checkup at the same time as my teeth cleaning appointment?
Yes, that’s actually the perfect combination! This way, your teeth can be quickly checked, cleaned, and polished, so you’ll know if everything is okay. If so—all the better—then you’ll have your best smile and everything is fine! If not—for example, if a small cavity is spotted—it’s detected early, and the treatment required is less extensive than if the cavity were already larger or deeper. This means the treatment remains minimally invasive, your teeth are spared, and you also save money on treatment. How much does a dental cleaning with a checkup cost?
Of course, the cost of a dental cleaning with an examination also varies from person to person. As we explained earlier, prices for dental cleanings differ from person to person. There are also differences when it comes to the examination: Some patients have been coming to us for years, so we already have all their medical records and X-rays on file. Other patients are visiting us for the first time, which is why we examine every tooth to compile a diagnosis. We usually also check any teeth of concern with an X-ray to see how deep any cavities may already be, or if there is inflammation visible at the root tip in the bone. If you’d like to discuss implants because you’d like to have fixed teeth or fixed dentures again, we’ll naturally need an X-ray for this as well to plan the implants, the artificial tooth roots. Here are two more examples:
- Nicole E., 32 years old, had a combined appointment for a dental cleaning (she hasn’t lost any teeth yet, so she still has all her teeth) and a dental checkup with a large panoramic X-ray. The total cost in her case is €281.48. Her teeth are shiny as new and have been thoroughly checked!
- Oliver P., 53 years old, comes in for a regular teeth cleaning and combined this appointment with a checkup. We didn’t need an X-ray. The total cost for him was €213.17. Clean teeth and everything checked!
